The Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (POEO Act) establishes the NSW environmental regulatory framework and includes a licensing requirement for certain activities.

Under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Council is required to publish quarterly and yearly summaries of relevant pollution monitoring data.
In accordance with the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (POEO Act) Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council continually monitors the effluent quality released from the water and wastewater facilities in the region.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council has prepared a Pollution Incident Response Management Plan (PIRMP), which details the procedures for the response and reporting of pollution incidents.
Council’s PIRMPs assists Council staff and personnel to correctly identify pollution incidents, reflecting the requirements of the Environment Protection Authority’s Guidelines.
Utilisation of this plan aims to improve, monitor and demonstrate environmental performance.
