TIME TO RECOGNISE

Council in conjunction with the Australia Day Council, proposes to present the Annual Australia Day Awards on 26 January 2026, at two separate ceremonies: one to be held in Gundagai and one to be held in Cootamundra.

Nominations are being invited for each of the following categories:

  1. Citizen of the Year.
  2. Young Citizen of the Year.
  3. Sportsperson of the Year Sports Achievement.

Receiving an Australia Day award means that an individual or organization has made a significant contribution to their community or nation. These awards are a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts that make our communities a better place.

CGRC Mayor Abb McAlister said that the annual Australia Day Awards recognise the contributions our citizenships make to their respective communities.

“What is so special about the Australia Day Awards is they given to people or organisations who have been nominated by the community, a submission by their community peers. The awards are given to people whose efforts have made a positive impact, whether through service, achievement, or community involvement. I encourage all people to think about those who do make a difference or those who have achieved great goals and nominate them for the 2026 Awards,” Councillor McAlister said.

Nominations are now open and will be received by Council until the 7 November 2025. Forms can be found on the CGRC website at staging.cgrc.nsw.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Australia-Day-Nomination-Form-2026.pdf or can be obtained at Council’s administration offices in Cootamundra and Gundagai.
