COUNCIL SERVICES HIGHLIGHTED AT LOCAL GOVERNMENT WEEK EVENTS

Local Government Week 2025 will be marked with events being held in Cootamundra and Gundagai, with the ever-popular open mornings. The event in Cootamundra will be held on Wednesday 6 August 2025, in the Max Whitteron Gardens and Town Hall precinct from 10.30am to 12.30pm and in Gundagai on Thursday 7 August at the Council Administration area in Sheridan Street. Both events will be preceded with Storytime events at both libraries.

The open days have been an initiative by Council over the last two years, showcasing some of the machinery Council uses delivering services to ratepayers and residents. The big machines are often a hit with the youngsters as they enjoy a delicious sausage sizzle, expertly cooked by Council staff.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) Mayor Abb McAlister said the open mornings have proved popular in the past and presented an opportunity for residents to gather important information.

“We will have information relating to companion animals, cemeteries, tourism, road safety, weed control, recycling, along with some free giveaways and the all-important delicious sausage sizzle. The youngsters enjoy getting up close to the machines, that they often see from a distance.

Local Government Week is an important event in Council’s calendar, it’s our opportunity to showcase the services offered by Council and speak directly to visitors.

Council works with business and the wider community to promote healthy local economies and create local jobs. Council is part of your everyday and works to make your neighbourhood accessible, on foot, by bike, or by car. Councils deliver so much more than roads, rates, and rubbish: they reflect the complex communities they serve each and every day,” Cr McAlister said.
