Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will shortly commence a comprehensive fire hydrant inspection and maintenance program across both Cootamundra and Gundagai as part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, reliable and resilient water supply network. Council has engaged BIDS Construction Pty Ltd to assist Council in completing this important work.
The program will involve locating and inspecting hydrants, testing water pressure and flow rates, flushing hydrants, identifying defects and undertaking necessary maintenance work where required. The inspections will cover approximately 800 hydrants in Cootamundra and 400 hydrants across Gundagai and South Gundagai.
While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, there may be occasional instances where water appears discoloured following hydrant flushing activities. This is a temporary condition caused by the disturbance of naturally occurring sediment within water mains. If residents experience discoloured water, Council recommends running a cold water tap for several minutes until the water clears.
