Cootamundra’s O’Connor Park the home of the Strikers Soccer Club, is now alight at night with the completion of a Stronger Country Communities Fund project.
The project has delivered new halogen lights and poles to the playing field, new lights, poles to the car parking area and sensor lights and solar system installed on clubhouse/dressing shed area.
The $98397 project was made possible from the NSW State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 2 grant, which has been administered by Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC).
Strikers Club vice president Mr Col Ashley said the club would see significant savings with the installation of solar and the clubs use of their ground for training as well as night matches.
“We would like to extend our thanks to Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke, this grant and the project itself will benefit our club and will in turn benefit our community,” Mr Ashely added.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said he was pleased the project has been completed and congratulated the club in bringing the project together on time and on budget.
“This club has worked with our Council staff really well, it’s a great example of collaboration and working as a team to get the job done, this is a project that will see the club well into the future,” Cr McAlister said.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said this project has some great attributes.
“There are real benefits to the community and the club with this project, the lights on the field will enable the club to expand on their night games and training sessions, the car park lighting offers safety and security for all at night games and training, sensor lighting will also provide security and the solar panels will assist with electricity costs. All round this is a great project and I’m pleased the NSW Government was able to assist with the grant to make it all happen,” Ms Cooke said.
